The Chamber Choir
TCYC is proud and excited to announce the formation of the TCYC Chamber Singers.
The Chamber Singers will be directed by Ann Williams.
The TCYC Chamber Singers will offer the opportunity for choral performance to middle school and high school singers. The minimum age for this group is fifth grade. Age, however, is not the only determining factor when choosing singers for this group. Singers must meet the requirements of the voice check. The voice check is a readiness assessment that examines a range of singing skills, and musicianship maturity.
Participation in the Chamber Singers is a year-long commitment. There are times throughout the season that home-practice, outside of the regular weekly rehearsal, is expected.
A comprehensive curriculum will be taught throughout the season. The Chamber Singers curriculum will focus on personal vocal development, ensemble work, increased musicianship skills, historical studies, and performance presentation skills.
The repertoire of this group will include performance of music of all styles. Chamber Singer artists can expect to perform classical masterworks, multicultural works, repertoire of current choral composers, and pop literature. Members of the Chamber Singers can expect a high level of musical challenge.
Next season's performance schedule will continue to include some TCYC’s favorites such as the Basilica of St. Mary Missa Choralis, The Lullaby Concert, and TCYC Choral Festival. We are also taking two concert tours: The first being a school tour, and the second a city tour with an overnight component. An exciting announcement for the 2018 season is that TCYC will be the featured chorus in a performance of the opera, “Amahl and the Night Visitors," by Menotti.
A priority of the TCYC organization is to create and maintain a positive environment that inspires music making as well as the creation of friendships within the groups. The Chamber Singers will, at times, work in tandem with their new partner choir - TnT.
It is going to be a fun and exciting season! We hope you are excited to join us in this new chapter in TCYC history.
The TNT Choir
During the 2018-19 season, TCYC will introduce a new choral experience, the TnT (Team-n-Talent) Choir. Our objective is, as a team, we use our talents to make beautiful and exciting choral music.
The TnT Choir will be directed by Ann Bordonaro.
No prior choir experience is needed. Requirement for participation in this choir is a love of singing with others, and a minimum age of entering third grade this fall. Although there is no formal audition to participate, all singers will do a voice check to determine vocal range and ability.
There will be two seasons of TnT, one in the Fall (Sept. through mid-December), and a Winter/Spring season (January-April). Participants may register for one or both seasons during the year. Weekly rehearsals will run concurrently with the TCYC Chamber Singers’ rehearsal.
Rehearsals will include technique in proper vocal production, part-singing, and basic musician skills needed for reading choral music. We will also engage in some fun team-building activities to help us work more effectively together while making new friends. Our repertoire will include folk music, show tunes, pop songs, and light classical pieces. Choreography and special staging will accompany some of our songs.
There are several exciting performance opportunities in the community planned for the TnT Choir! We will be joining the North Suburban Choir and Band in their annual holiday concert, premiering a piece by a local composer. We will continue the TCYC tradition of singing at the Basilica of St. Mary Missa Choralis, the TCYC Lullaby Concert and TCYC Choral Festival. Singing at area nursing homes, and a possible concert at the Mall of America are being planned. An exciting venture will be joining the TCYC Chamber Singers on a city tour.
Please join us as we blaze new horizons, make new friends, and experience an “explosive” musical season with TCYC’s TnT Choir!
